The Asian Handmade Art Bedding Quilt is made from a fine, homespun cotton material called ‘khaddar’. The fame ascribed to this cloth stems from the great Mahatma Gandhi and his Khadi movement of 1920. Gandhi had urged the Indian people to hand-loom their own fabric, and boycott British mill-woven textile. This non-violent protest boosted the Indian economy and served as a display of patriotism. The light, soft khaddar material is still hand-loomed in villages in the Subcontinent today, and is used to fashion a variety of trendy home textiles, including curtains, bed linen, pillow covers, wall hangings, table linen, and garments.
