In the glorious days of the Mughal Empire, the Maharaja would leave the royal palace to visit his countrymen and to attend to matters of the town. The prince’s visit to the town would almost certainly be accompanied by his royal entourage of Indian elephants. The elephants would be adorned with exotic jewels and were considered a symbol of wealth and royalty. Today, the elephants of the Mughal Empire are remembered in hand-embroidered textile art, as seen in the Elephant Handmade Art Bedding Quilt.
