For Thais hand loom silk is part of their heritage and their culture. Indeed, women traditionally weave silk on hand looms, and pass the skill on to their daughters as weaving is considered to be a sign of maturity and eligibility for marriage. Thai silk textiles often use complicated patterns in various colors and styles. Most regions of Thailand have their own typical silks.
The products of this collection are all 100% handmade with hand-loomed Thai silk.
Our silk products use as well silk hand-loomed by Thai artisans and then sewn by tailors in Thailand at our request. Different type of silk are available.
Raw Silk:
Raw Silk has a nubby feel and a low sheen. Noil somewhat resembles cotton in surface texture. Noil is a bit bulky to use for gathered construction, but it has a gentle drape. It is durable, travels well and resists wrinkles.
Single Ply:
Our silk products are made with single-ply silk. We do, however, have 2-ply yarns available upon request only.
Single ply fabrics are made from individually woven threads of yarn, while two-ply fabrics are made from two threads of yarn that are first twisted together and then woven. The silk used is all non pre-washed; therefore, the silk products from this collection must be dry cleaned. Pre-washed silk is also available upon request.
